About Me

My favorite subjects are animals, birds, plants, and people in their natural settings. I’ve been carrying a camera around since I was a kid. Over the years I have tried to refine my captures from snapshots of the moment to images that reveal something of the character of the subject. It isn’t easy for me, I still make a lot of critter portraits – images which show the critter but don’t always capture what was going on. This is part of the challenge for me. I wander the parks and woods looking for critters being critters and try to capture an image of them doing it. It’s very satisfying when I get home, review the images and find I caught a moment which reveals something of the life of one of these critters. It is the same for people portraits. I prefer to photograph people doing whatever it is they do, than pose them in a studio setting. Photographing people in their environment presents special technical challenges, but the results are often worth the effort.

  1. Hi Norm,
I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how much I appreciate the photos I found of my dad, Bob Thomas on his Honor Flight in June of 2016 out of Kansas City. My dad passed a little over 2 weeks ago and I just found these pictures with your hand written card (who does this anymore??) inside, and I was very touched. He lived a good life, but unfortunately ALS took him this year, but I was able to keep him at home. THANK YOU for those memories, he did not share them, but thanks to you I have them.

    Nancy
