Last weekend my friend took me to a sod farm in Brambleton, Virginia. We were looking for American Pipets and whatever other birds we might find. After finding our target birds, we wandered around a bit and spotted many other species. This raven was one of those. He landed near us, found something he wanted (not really sure it was to be his lunch) and took off.
Anhinga Sunning
I took a break from the winter weather to attend the Birds of a Feather birding festival in Palm Coast, Florida. It was a great three days of birding and photography. I participated in three full-day outings and the evening event featuring Moose Peterson. There was fog, overcast, and sunny periods, each presenting a birding and photography challenge. This Anhinga was taking advantage of a sunny period to dry off and warm up after diving for a meal.
Roseate Spoonbill
A Roseate Spoonbill headed home to his nest at the St Augustine Alligator Farm. There is a rookery at the Farm which is the home for thousands of migrants during the mating season.

Bald Eagles at Blackwater NWR
Over the past several years a drive through the Blackwater National Wildlife Reserve would included a view of a pair of Bald Eagles. Often the pair would be quite a distance off offering only a glimpse of the birds. Sometimes the eagles will perch on an old tree near the drive. I was lucky on a recent drive to find the eagles on the tree only a few hundred feet away. The sun was just an “inch” off the horizon but it was enough light to make the shot. I was using a 600mm lens with a 1.4 extender on a crop sensor camera.
