With just a slight breeze to clear the smoke, it was a great night to celebrate Independence Day.

Vintage Aircraft – Arsenal of Democracy Fly-in
A P-51 getting ready to leave the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. This plane as well as the following planes were participants of the Arsenal of Democracy fly over in Washington, DC.
The day started out with lots of fog and very low cloud cover. The weather prevented the scheduled arrival of many of the planes.
Finally the sky cleared enough for some of the aircraft to fly in from Manassas, VA. Their arrival resulted in cheers and applause from the spectators who had been waiting for hours.
The event at the Udvar-Hazy center included the Air Force Airman of Note band, Gottaswing swing dancers, lots of WW II Veterans on Honor Flight trips, and vintage Jeeps.
Merry Christmas
Christmas anticipation in Washington
Once again the US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC has transformed into a holiday destination. There are models of monuments and familiar buildings made of dried leaves and sticks. There are model trains and regional lighthouses in another room.
High above the crowd several trains cross bridges made from tree trimmings and other bits of botanical cutoffs.
Careful cropping with the lens and some good timing can produce realistic looking action shots.
Here can be seen some of the lighthouses and Thomas the Tank Engine.
Star Spangled Celebration
The city of Baltimore celebrated 200 years of the National anthem. Tall ships, navy ships and assorted other vessels were in port to celebrate. Most of the visiting ships were available for touring. Along with many concerts and nautical demonstrations, there was the fireworks display in the Inner Harbor. I opted for a close-in vantage point and used a 24 – 105 lens. This lens allowed me to include the National Aquarium which helps place the images.
