Taking a little time to get caught up on processing and general digital housekeeping. I am amazed at the poor quality of the wifi service I’ve been getting in motels. When the service stays connected it is usually so slow I can not post images. Today I am waiting on a car repair at a Starbucks and the service is great. I spent all day Friday traveling through and around Mt. Rainier. It was worth every minute. Perfect weather and not too many cars on the road. Loving being a Guy with a Camera.

A new venture in photography
Traveling through one of the Nation’s darkest sky areas. What a great time to try light painting. And what better subject than a grizzled old Bristlecone Pine tree? A few dozen attempts resulted in many variations, some pretty cool and some not so much. I like this one.
Christmas anticipation in Washington
Once again the US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC has transformed into a holiday destination. There are models of monuments and familiar buildings made of dried leaves and sticks. There are model trains and regional lighthouses in another room.
High above the crowd several trains cross bridges made from tree trimmings and other bits of botanical cutoffs.
Careful cropping with the lens and some good timing can produce realistic looking action shots.
Here can be seen some of the lighthouses and Thomas the Tank Engine.
A New Memorial in Washington, DC
A new memorial has been dedicated in Washington, DC this month. It is located across the street from the National Botanical Garden and a few blocks from the capitol. Large glass panels have been etched with images of disabled veterans and thought-provoking sentiments.
A reflecting pool and flame complete the memorial.
A Tribute to Disabled Veterans
In a tribute to disabled veterans, 23 T-6 Texans, a WW II era pilot training aircraft, flew past the Pentagon and over Arlington Cemetery today. Three days of anticipation finally paid off.
I set up at the Air Force memorial thinking this would be the best location. It was and wasn’t. I got a few seconds of planes in profile and more of tails. The course did not provide any head on shots. I had a 600mm on a tripod which turned out to be too much lens. I quickly changed over to the 100/400 mm for the bottom two shots. I got a few good shots, none that are great but I had a good time. Now if I could do it all over again…
